PDF compression: where the megabytes actually go
A PDF is rarely heavy because of its text. Knowing what makes it heavy is the difference between a lighter file and a broken one.
What makes a PDF heavy
Scanned pages, high-resolution photos, embedded fonts and duplicated resources account for almost all of a PDF's weight. The text itself is a few kilobytes — which is why two visually identical PDFs can differ by a factor of fifty.
Smart re-encoding, not brutal flattening
Cheap compressors flatten every page into one low-quality image: the file shrinks, and the text becomes blurry and unselectable. Proper compression re-encodes images at the right resolution, deduplicates resources and strips dead objects — while leaving the text layer untouched.
Why compress at all
Mail providers cap attachments at 10-25 MB, upload portals even lower, and archives grow fast. Compression is how a 40 MB scan becomes an attachment that actually sends.
Our model, without ambiguity
IgoDoc is a paid service: a 48-hour trial for 0.50 € — not a free version, a trial at a symbolic price — then 39.90 €/month, cancellable at any time in one click. PDF compression is included in the subscription like every other tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions below. For other inquiries, please contact us by email.
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on what is inside: scans and image-heavy documents routinely lose 50-90% of their weight, while text-only PDFs are already small and shrink less. Compression picks the strongest settings that do not visibly degrade the document.
Will my PDF stay readable and sharp?
Yes. The text layer is never touched — letters stay vector-crisp and selectable. Only images are re-encoded, at a resolution chosen to remain clean on screen and in print.
Is there a free version?
No — IgoDoc has no free plan: access starts with a 48-hour trial priced at 0.50 €, then 39.90 € per month, cancellable in one click. Free compressors exist; their limits (flattened text, watermarks, size caps) show on documents that matter — the trial lets you compare on your own file.
Is there a file size limit?
Each upload is capped at a level that comfortably covers everyday professional documents, scans included. There is no limit on the number of files you compress with the subscription.
How long does compression take?
A few seconds for most documents, upload included. The download starts as soon as the compressed file is ready.
What happens to my file afterwards?
It is deleted from our servers once processing completes — no cloud storage, no third-party access, encrypted transfer throughout.
Will links, bookmarks and form fields still work?
Yes — compression only re-encodes the heavy resources. Navigation, internal links, bookmarks and fillable fields come out exactly as they went in.
How do I cancel?
From your account, subscription section: one click, an e-mail confirmation, immediate effect — access stays open until the end of the paid period. Cancelling during the trial means you will have spent only 0.50 €.
What your document keeps
Text sharpness
Text is never rasterized: letters stay vector-crisp at every zoom level, whatever the size gain.
Images
Photos are re-encoded at a sensible resolution: visibly identical on screen, several times lighter in the file.
Structure
Pages, links, bookmarks and form fields stay exactly where they were — only the weight changes.
